Simple Machining Process For Die Castings
Jul 27, 2024| Die casting is a manufacturing process in which molten metal is cooled and shaped by injecting it into a mold, and is mainly applied to metal materials such as aluminum, magnesium and zinc. Its main advantage lies in its ability to quickly produce metal parts with complex shapes and accurate dimensions. Die castings not only have a good surface finish, but also excel in strength and weight.
Simple Processing of Die Castings.
Although the overall process of die casting processing may seem complex, in fact its key processes can be summarized as follows:
1. mold design and manufacture
Mold is one of the core components in the die casting process. Good mold design can ensure the accuracy and surface quality of die castings. In this process, the designer needs to consider factors such as metal flow, cooling rate, mold material and structure. The die is usually made of steel or aluminum alloy, which has the characteristics of high strength and wear resistance.
2. melting metal
Before die casting, the metal needs to be melted first. According to different alloys, the melting temperature will be different. For example, the melting temperature of aluminum alloy is usually around 660℃. In the melting process, need to ensure that the metal does not contain impurities, in order to avoid affecting the quality of the zui final product.
3. Injection molding
When the metal is melted, it is injected into the mold. This process involves controlling the injection speed and pressure to ensure that the metal fills every detail of the mold. Typically, injection pressures of up to several hundred MPa are used to ensure that the metal flows quickly and evenly into the mold.
4. Cooling and Curing
After injection into the mold, the metal cools and cures rapidly. The cooling time depends on the material, thickness and ambient temperature of the mold, and usually ranges from a few seconds to more than ten seconds. Uneven cooling during this process may result in distortion or cracking of the product, so accurate control of the cooling time is required.
5. open mold and take pieces
After the die casting is cooled to a certain temperature, the mold will be opened and the molded die casting will be taken out. This process needs to be handled gently to prevent damage to the finished product due to adhesion between the mold and the die casting.
6. Post-treatment process
After taking out the die castings, some post-treatment processes are usually required, such as removing excess gates, sanding, surface treatment, etc. The post-treatment process not only improves the quality of the die castings, but also improves the quality of the die castings. Post-treatment can not only enhance the appearance quality of the die casting, but also improve its mechanical properties.
